The Moon reflects our Personal Needs

I've mentioned this before: how the Moon as a subconscious agent is more likely to reflect (!) the True Self to the public because it is what the individual Needs for his/her personal safety, security, and manner of dealing with society.

Moon in Aries: The need to be independent-thinking and responding in action/impulse

Moon in Taurus: The need to be secure and stabilized

Moon in Gemini: The need to ask questions and learn

Moon in Cancer: The need to help others (and Self) be safe

Moon in Leo: The need to be appreciated and show care about others

Moon in Virgo: The need to be of assistance and help others and Self organize and manage

Moon in Libra: The need to keep people and situations in harmony

Moon in Scorpio: The need for privacy and safety by knowing others' motivations

Moon in Sagittarius: The need to learn more about others' values and beliefs

Moon in Capricorn: The need to achieve and succeed at the highest possible level

Moon in Aquarius: The need for personal freedom of Self-image and others

Moon in Pisces: The need to understand and detach from the world

Lunar types and Moon Sensitivities

The late Donna Cunningham came up with a terrific idea about some people being "lunar types in a solar world."  What I understand from this:  some of us are more "moon-influenced" by the moon's placement in our chart or by sign (Moon in Cancer, for instance, or a 4th house moon).
Dynamics:
·       1st (Personality), 4th (Home-family), 7th (Relationships-partnerships), or 10th (Career-status) house moon; option is a 4th house Sun
·       Close ties to emotions, sensitivity, feelings
·       Unable to comfortably express themselves
·       Shy, vulnerable, prone to tears
·       More “grumpy” than most people;
·       “hard shell exterior” (and sensitive feelings that are hidden)
I should note here that a moon in the 1st, 4th, 7th, or 10th houses makes a person "lunar/loony" and more of a Cancer-Crab/Moonchild, even if they are not of that sign. This idea also comes from Donna Cunningham—that the moon in one of the Four Quadrant Markers (1st/4th, 7th, 10th) houses gives someone a “lunar” perspective of dealing with society; that is, the subject is more withdrawn to some level from society and protective of their psyche.

They are crab-like in their manner of hiding a vulnerable sensitive attitude behind a gruff exterior.  Emotionally sensitive from hard-to-express-from-within levels, the Lunar type retreats in their home or office for safety and protection from the outside world.  A 4th house placement for a woman often indicates some sort of Earth Mother role, protecting, caring for, and nurturing animals, plants, or people.
The 1st house moon will "feel every emotion" as part of their personality; the 4th house moon will feel grounded and secure in their own home; the 7th house moon will want a partner whom they can "mother" and be nurtured by in return; and a 10th house moon will make their job (and colleagues) their 'children.' A first house Lunar type would be highly sensitive to the moon’s sign placement.  Physiologically, a 1st house moon would impact the physical body in some manner, or at least the personality in a distinct way. A first house Lunar type would be highly sensitive to the moon’s sign placement.  Physiologically, a 1st house moon would impact the physical body in some manner, or at least the personality in a distinct way.
I should note here that a moon in the 1st, 4th,
Moon Sensitivities:
·       Reflexive gut feeling; system of security-needs and subconscious reaction
·       “first response is self-preservation-safety” when caught unaware
·       Capacity to establish a safe zone around self and home
·       Subconscious attitude toward society; empathic sensitivity to events
·       “Emotional-mental tentacle” that touches world

The Emotional Moon Qualities, Your Needs, & Your Mother

The emotional nature of the Moon's psychological effects on our personality, subconscious, and behavior is connected by the gravitational pull on our endocrine system.  Being made primarily of water, the fluids of our bodies are naturally responsive to the physiological attunements that our birth moon sign brings, as well as the 2.5-day changes that the Moon Herself undergoes each month.

You could say that the Moon is "colorful" this way; She energizes and activates our psyche on a daily schedule as well as a lifetime pattern.

Just as significantly, the Moon indicates our imprinting by our mother or our primary female caregiver. For men, this is crucial to learn: it shows how we seek a woman to share our lives and what qualities she reflects in our own life pattern. As the representation of our Inner Child's needs for security, our Moon sign shows what we seek in our lives for safety and nurturing.

Nancy Cassidy wrote about the elemental and psychological nature of the Moon in each sign; I give her the credit and thanks for the general idea.

Fire Sign Moons: Aggressive, dynamic, spontaneous; passionate
Aries moon:  "Impatient moon; Emotionally Independent"

A need for display and presentation; Enjoyment of social events and excitement (gambling)

Sagittarius moon:  "Bachelor moon; Emotionally expansive"
(Sag challenges Cancer moon's qualities of safety and home base); A need to be free; seeks advising/teaching as means to nurture; Travel, games, and challenging activities are needed from partner.

Air sign moons: mental; social; detached from feelings/emotions
Gemini moon:  "Intellectual moon; Emotionally superficial"

Capricorn moon:  "Business moon;  emotionally reserved and calculating"; ambitious needs to prove oneself to authority;
Opposes Cancer moon's rulership:  early conditioning of “meet my expectations first” from Mother figure; Inhibited naturally by Saturn’s rulership to accept nurturing; difficulty accepting praise; Will bond for survival or practical means.

Water sign Moons: vulnerable, empathic, sensitive, emotional
Cancer-crab moon:  "Motherhood moon; emotionally protective"; receptive to other water moon signs;
Need to nurture & comfort; intuitive and sympathetic; Maternal nature for men and women; extended to animals and groups; friendships; associations;
Gruff nature can hide real need to show caring and vulnerability.

Scorpio moon:  "Jealous moon;  Emotionally intense";
receptive to other water moon signs; A need for secrecy; need for power and control, especially with sex and sharing self and assets; suspicious of others' intentions; Difficulty trusting a partner; needs distance and space.

mentally escape from environment, challenges, or lifestyle;
Needs to release collection of feelings from others;
Needs to stop escaping problems in relationships.

What's your moon sign mean to you?

What character is your moon sign?

It’s been my observation that the moon ‘acts’ the same way as a sun placement, but with “moon-needs” as far as the type of energy that someone "needs" to be expressed and fulfilled. The moon says, “This is what I Need to feel comfortable, and since I’m subconscious, I’m not an up-in-your-face item.”

As with the other planets, the moon will take on the caliber or quality of the sign with which it’s placed:
  1. A moon in Aries will be someone who lives for a fight or challenge;
  2. a Taurus moon wants to take things slow and steady, and enjoys sensuous, physical stimulation;
  3. a Gemini moon needs to talk and question things and write down their thoughts;
  4. a Cancer moon wants to support and comfort, as well as feel safe before making a move, and will welcome a meal as a sign of comfort;
  5. a Leo moon wants attention, grand gestures, display, and to be appreciated for their feelings and gestures of loving someone;
  6. a Virgo moon needs to dissect and mince through an issue to find out just how it works and qualify it as an action that can be specific in nature. They also feel it's impossible (for them) to be perfect--and that's what they crave--from their partners, too;
  7. a Libra moon wants to be assured that there’s no conflict of interest and that everything is in accordance with everyone’s sense of ownership;
  8. a Scorpio moon…well, someone dangerous knows about that and doesn’t want this told!! (which also goes along with the naturally suspicious and protective nature of the sign), as well as a need to be in control and defend against threats;
  9. a Sagittarius moon wants BIG things to happen, and be able to philosophize about it, as well as being outdoors to feel good;
  10. a Capricorn moon wants achievement and approval in order to feel safe, as well as constant recognition for works and projects done;
  11. an Aquarius moon takes the different path for solutions, as well as keeping a sense of detachment and aloofness. Social contacts take the place for intimacy needs;
  12. and a Pisces moon wants to cry over everything because they feel everyone’s pain and don’t know where they fit in this crazy world because it doesn’t make sense! If only…if only this were another planet…a dimension…or a fantasy world…ah!
