Polarities - Balances between Active-Passive Natures

A note here:  "Masculine" and "Feminine" have nothing to do with gender.  The words represent a presentation of outward-or-inward display of personality and intuitiveness; they are indications of how an individual shows his-or-her sense of aggressive or passive action.

One of the reasons I have a previous post about the asteroids has to do with the Emerging Feminine Consciousness, and the polarities have a lot in common with this.  Men in our world's cultures are not encouraged to be attuned to their intuitive nature; this is why they can not handle certain phases of aging, especially after a career has ended or retirement has begun, while in contrast, women seem to gain strength and survive.

Similarly, women in most societies are not encouraged to display signs of a strong dominant nature; the suppression of women over the last 2000+ years and the Goddess principle is a reflection on this.  I hope that in the 21st century, men and women will learn to share their power together and with balance, even toward those who choose alternative gender preferences and roles.  Our survival as a species in the years ahead beyond 2012 will be crucial to this balance and acceptance regardless of our personal values and belief systems.  The Native American people learned this well: women made decisions on key matters (such as going to war against another group) for the tribe and clan, then the men would act on their ideas.

Polarities:
Assertive-Aggressive & Passive-Responsive Postures
of Behavior and Identity

Aggressive-Assertive (Masculine-Positive Polarity)
Fire & Air signs and their qualities:
“warm air—-or a firestorm”
Aries – Leo - Sagittarius; Gemini – Libra - Aquarius

Too much masculine/positive:  too aggressive & assertive
Difficult for women in business
Ego issues overwhelm others’ needs

Not enough masculine/positive: Lacking initiative;
* needs to be proactive; better social role models and choices

Passive-Responsive (Feminine-Negative Polarity)
Earth & Water signs and their qualities:
“a garden water fountain--or a driving river”
Taurus – Virgo - Capricorn; Cancer – Scorpio - Pisces

Too much feminine: I’m too receptive and responsive
* Needs to establish self-image without compromising sense of self-power and identity/sensitivity to others.

Not enough feminine:  I don’t appear as being sensitive
*Needs to develop sympathy and intuition of nurturing life and values of others.

Modalities: Dynamic Forces of Psychological Momentum & Inertia

Modalities:

Transformation as a process of experience throughout a lifetime is inevitable. Modalities offer a plan for delineating how an individual manages the complexities of major Life Change Events.

Some transformational events are basic:  birth, death, a bonding commitment to another in partnership, or the collaborative effort of working.  The type of modality shows how the subject reacts or encounters these basic transformational Life Events.

The three types of Modalities are Cardinal, Fixed, and Mutable.

Cardinal signs hit Life with a bang.

Major Episodes of Significant Change is the norm; these people seem to be constantly involved in deep periods of transition and activity.  One of their purposes in these lessons is to serve as representatives for others in the community.  They observe and act as inspiration that obstacles and challenges serve a purpose as tests of character and spiritual and psychological growth.  Their strength is in their ability to handle crises and shows others how to adapt; their weakness comes when they struggle against mastering lessons in order to gain wisdom and leadership skills.

Fixed signs operate as the building blocks and support structure of society; they provide steadiness and firming-up for others.  They can be the virtual “Rock of Gibraltar” for support of another (the true “shoulder to lean on”), and a symbol of resolution, endurance, and a calming, sturdy force and presence. Their strength is their ability to stand and face adversity; their weakness is their unwillingness to alter their course when necessary (such as admitting a flaw or fault and modifying their behavior accordingly).

Mutable signs are noted for their flexibility and adaptability; however, they may be overwhelmed or overcome by outside forces that make them yield when they should instead be holding their position or viewpoint.  Their strength is their incredible ability to fit themselves into the circumstances of change; their weakness is that they often are too distracted by issues and do not hold onto their values or point of view.

Cardinal:  Origin and Renewal of Purpose of Existence & Environment

Aries/Cancer/Libra/Capricorn

Significant Life Activities and Challenges. The powerful attraction of people and events for dynamic soul growth. Individuals who are willing and adaptive to Life Change

Too much Cardinal: Life is an Adventure; I HAVE TO INITIATE ACTIVITY; Need for extreme events and lifestyle.

Not enough Cardinal:  The Quiet Life;

I WANT NORMAL conditions and peace at any price. Life is in stasis; the soul is not facing challenges, r is using delays in overcoming obstacles.

Fixed:  Concentration of focus & Resistance to Change.

Taurus/Leo/Scorpio/Aquarius

Sensitivity to the environment (personal) and physical appetites and needs.

Endurance and persistence to meet goals. Singular focus and determination are gifts and weaknesses.

Too much Fixed: I’m TOO STUBBORN TO CHANGE. Issues of power and control; Must realize Life will Change regardless.

Not enough Fixed: I can’t stay with tasks; NO STAYING POWER.

Needs to learn self-value of ideals; Needs to face up to challenges and fears of failure

Mutable: Change or Adaptation to Existence & Environment

Gemini/Virgo/Sagittarius/Pisces

Chameleon-like qualities that help adaptation to Life Challenges.

Willingness for flexibility that allows learning. Awareness of the duality of nature and the polarity of self as a soul force in human form.

Too much Mutable: I sway too easily; “I’m a pushover”. Needs to gain self-respect and ownership of values. Needs to develop the courage to face fears.

Not enough Mutable:  I can’t adapt; “I Can’t Make Up My Mind!”

Needs to learn that indecision which leads to failure is not wrong: effort counts, so keep trying.

Born on the Cusp of Two Signs?

The 50-50 Signs:
Cusp Creatures,

 or
Caught In the Middle
of Identity Change!

(Author's note: With some humor here and a thank you for the original idea to Tem Tarriktar of the excellent magazine,
The Mountain Astrologer. (He originated this idea; I embellished it, so we both get half credit.)

Signs between signs:  the cross-over point known as the cusp, or “doorway” as I think of it between one to another.  It’s like a set of fraternal twins:  both born separate but united in their origins.  This is most noticed when it is the birth (Sun) sign. With 30 degrees to each sign and the 12 components of identity, there is a very slight transition time when the beginning and ending overlaps in the psyche. Such a person has the qualities of both signs, and may find it hard to separate the two main components of the sign’s psychological dynamics and need for expression.

Obviously, the names are real for the celebrities, but the examples are certainly taken to an extreme and with humor.  However, there is quite a bit on-target with the samples--just ask someone born on the cusp!
I would be inclined to say to anyone who asks, "Read the nature of both signs" because that's likely who these people are.  Well, at least one side of them!
(The other side will deny it because it isn't getting credit.)

The Aries/Taurus cusp (April 20-21):
Bullies, the galloping cow
(or Raging Bull)

The main characteristic of this cuspal creature is a one-pointed charge toward the object of its desire.  (They’re also the belligerent billy goat.  In an especially large individual, consider the bull elephant on attack.) Bullies are compatible with only themselves, and they make great bank robbers and military adventurers.
Famous Bullies:  Iggy Pop, Carmen Electra, and              Catherine the Great

The Taurus/Gemini cusp (May 20-21):
Geminus, the no-fault insurance & used car salesperson

This fast-talking cuspoid combines the clever double-talk of Gemini with the business sense of Taurus.  These curious and sometimes psychic creatures often become political pollsters, corporate lawyer sleazeballs, and sports/film agents.
Famous Geminus:  Cher, Bronson Pinchot, Mr. T., and                Busta Rhymes

The Gemini/Cancer cusp
(June 20-21):
Cancimini, the crabby twins

It is common to see a Cancimini talking to itself and taking notes.  One self tends to worry (about the other self).  Due to their diverse attachments, they collect the strangest little colorful things but can't remember where they are.
Famous Cancimini: Ray Davies of the Kinks and
Brian Wilson of the Beach Boys

The Cancer/Leo "fence" (July 22-23):
Canceo, the regal beagle

This cusp rules any foods in general that quiver and shake: pudding, Jello, etc.) Canceo rules elderly fat house pets. Their lives are largely spent fawning over little dogs and dressing them up in outrageously foolish clothes.
Notable Canceo: Unknown Inventor of the King Crab salad, Woody Harrelson, Don Imus, and David Spade.

The Leo/Virgo cusp (Aug 23-24):
Lego, the crazed artisan
Lego inspired the Sphinx and rules stage fright.  Emperors of the zodiac, they maintain absolute control over their designated kingdom regardless of size.  These poor confused souls can often be heard to say,
"How can I help you
(to meet my needs)?"
Famous Legos: King Louis XVI of France, Kobe Bryant,            Wilt Chamberlain, Keith Moon, Vince McMahon, and          Olympic swimmer Duke Kahanamoku

The Virgo/Libra cusp (Sept 22-23):
Virbra, the pay scales

Virbra rules labor unions, labors of love, laboratory cleaning products, and laborious efforts to make sure everything has its place. These are the creatures who want perfect relationships and write books called Romantic Perfection Despite Your Faults.
Famous Virbras: Bruce Springsteen, John Coltrane, and               Jason Alexander.

The Libra/Scorpio zone (Oct 23-24):
Librium Leepio, the indecisive assassin

They have passive-explosive complexes: a polite Soprano Family, including women. These creatures are also the politicians of the zodiac, combining the flip-flopping of Libra with the desire for power of Scorpio. Their motto:  “Don't get mad, get balanced, then get even and dump ‘em!"
Famous Librium Leepios: Johnny Carson, Tila Tequila,                   Kevin Kline, and Michael Chrichton

The Scorpio/Sagittarius cusp
(Nov 22-23):
Scorptarius, the boomerang archer

What goes around comes around!
Their motto: "I've uncovered the secrets of the Universe, but damned if I'm telling!"  Some Scorptarians are spies who advertise in  weapons trade journals, or write unauthorized autobiographies.
Famous Scorptarians: None of your business!…
Scarlett Johannson, Miley Cyrus, and Boris Karloff

The Sagittarius/Capricorn cusp
(Dec 21-22):
Sagicorny - the flippant dictator

This cuspoid climbs the mountain of life, reaches the summit, throws both arms skyward, and shouts, “I’m on top, and it proves that I’m always right!”
Famous Sagicornians: Kiefer Sutherland, Frank Zappa,        Josef Stalin, and Jane Fonda.

The Capricorn/Aquarius cusp
(Jan 20-21):
Caprarius, the bringer of
hooved animals

The reliable eccentric, these cuspoids surf for ideas like "How to maintain the status quo in new, innovative, exciting ways.”
People born under this cusp often have successful careers in designing co-ops for medicinal marijuana and bicycle-powered machines and events on land and water.
Famous Caprarians: Wolfman Jack & Benny Hill

The Aquarius/Pisces cusp
(Feb 19-20):
Aqueesies - the limp crystal

These guys are beyond the ozone, pure and simple: not of Earth. Don't try to figure them out—they’re tuned to a different frequency. This is the domain of exotic outdoor festivals, confused bureaucracy, the entire New Age, selfless individualism, lost souls, and decentralized minds.
Famous Aqueesies:  Kurt Cobain, Lee Marvin, French Stewart, and Charles Barkley

The Pisces/Aries cusp (Mar 20-21):
Prayeries, the Great White Shark on land

Picture an ostrich running around in circles with his head stuck in the ground, eager to do something, but unable to act without disaster.  Their motto:  I am one with the Universe, but Me First!”
Known for using all the hot water in the shower and consuming huge amounts of shellfish and beer at beaches and parties.
Famous Prayeries:  Spike Lee and Rosie O’Donnell

Capricorn the Sea-goat - Status and Achievement

(Just a note:  not ALL the classic social role models ("archetypes") will fit the sign's characteristics--but these are good examples of people who outwardly express the qualities of the sign.)

Capricorn (December 22 - January 20)
"I Am What I Achieve"

The persistency and long-term approach to work and the results of effort mark the Capricorn individual. The need for conscientious, organized ambition makes them seem coldly relentless in their pursuit of a career or goal. They really are much more aware of creating and establishing their boundaries of independence and achievement as a base of security in planning for their future. Capricorns are the natural executives, business planners and managers of enterprise. They are constantly seeking to rise up beyond their present level of responsibility. They almost seem to be born "old before their time," and young Capricorn children often reach out for practical ways of earning money and prestige, assuming an air of resolve that makes them feel at ease with older people.

The Capricorn key phrase is "I Use," and Capricorns utilize anything available to see them as successful. Everything has a definite means of fitting a structure for their recognition for status. The world of politics attracts the Capricorn soul, with the emphasis on government, and the ruthless opportunities that can offer the temptation of power.

There is also a milder side to the Capricorn work ethic, and that is the less aggressive person who can be content with a daily routine in a more established position. This person can be likened to a tethered goat, knowing the limitations of his wandering, while his more driven, tireless representation can be thought of as the sure-footed mountain goat, climbing even higher towards lofty peaks.

Capricorn brings the rigidity of the lessons of Saturn, the planet of discipline and structure, and the Capricorn-influenced parts of the body correspond accordingly. The structural parts of the anatomy: the teeth, the bones, nails, skin, and especially, the knees, are Capricorn influenced. Because Capricorn tendencies make people so uncompromising in their drive for a structured life, they find themselves unwilling to yield at times, hence, the "bending of the knees" to learn humility is emphasized. Capricorn features in a chart can bring a small stature and much body hair, and the ability to bear up to much physical demands to do hard work.

Capricorns often unfairly are considered distant and insensitive to affection and matters of romance. Instead, they are very responsive, once they have overcome their basic need for fulfillment of security in relationships. Many Capricorns have the capacity to marry for money first, and then love. Capricorn women can display a classic beauty based on good bone structure that is sought by the fashion model industry.

Sagittarius the Centaur - The Search for Knowledge and Wisdom

(Just a note:  not ALL the classic social role models ("archetypes") will fit the sign's characteristics--but these are good examples of people who outwardly express the qualities of the sign.)

Sagittarius (November 23 - December 22)

"I Am What I Think is Truth"

Sagittarius brings to the zodiac and the world the love of truth, higher values, the knowledge and application of wisdom, and the capacity to spread thoughts to expand and enlighten. A Sagittarian will gladly tell you what they think (unlike a Scorpio), as they are sure that only true ideas are worthy. However, it may be difficult to argue any other point with them, as they are so certain that their idealism is right! Sagittarius brings emphasis to philosophy, education as a higher institute of learning, law and the judicial system, and religious concepts. They are by nature great debaters, challenging viewpoints to give merit to their opinions and ideas, which they find naturally useful and important to the spiritual evolution of humanity. They are optimistic individuals, with insight and intuitive awareness. Sometimes this optimism finds itself in less practical expression, such as fanatical adherence to philosophical or religious zeal, or in gambling or games of chance and speculation.

Sagittarius is the sign of the centaur-archer, with a drawn bow, representing the arrow of truth. Sagittarius will always speak their mind, and often can be blunt about what they think. They are inclined to jump to conclusions, but they are adept at gathering information and constructing theories. Sagittarius has the rulership of the planet Jupiter, lending the sign the expansion and benevolence associated with the principle of Jehovah, or the presence of God. The need to educate and emphasize teaching is a foundation of Sagittarian life. Scholars taught the advanced sciences of medicine, healing skills and astronomy; the higher "mentor/tutor" role falls into the realm of Sagittarius. The finer military and martial arts also have Sagittarian influence.

Sagittarians can be found in athletic events, or enjoying the love of hunting, fishing, and wilderness traveling or camping.  Sagittarius also brings the love of long distance places, foreign countries, their cultures and languages. A person with Sagittarius prominent in their chart will be offered the chance to change their residence many times, or at least be able to experience meeting people from other lands.

Sagittarius rules the thighs and liver, and Sagittarians often enjoy the sport of running and golf, for the physical challenge to be on the move, as well as the outdoor exposure to nature. They are also fond of equestrian events, and can be excellent handlers of horses. Their need for over-indulgence can cause them to enjoy too much rich food and suffer from weight gain.

Scorpio the Scorpion - Desire and Magnetic Attraction

(Just a note:  not ALL the classic social role models ("archetypes") will fit the sign's characteristics--but these are good examples of people who outwardly express the qualities of the sign.)

Scorpio (October 23 - November 22)
"I Am Who and What I Desire"

Scorpio, more than any other sign of the zodiac, possesses the greatest potential for powerful transformation of the soul. It has the combined influence of the planets Pluto and Mars, emphasizing long-term change and re-birth, as well as raw, explosive energy. Scorpio natives have the willpower and desire to see to the very end the aspirations they strive for, with a persistence that is legendary.

A Scorpio will practically die trying without yielding their position. The lifetime of a Scorpio can be filled with tremendous peaks and valleys, as they experience the heights and depths of the challenges that they face. Scorpios must confront from within them a desire for personal will versus divine guidance. They are so intent on having their own right to govern a situation that jealousy, cruelty, and violence as a means to an end is often their first release of expression.

Scorpio brings an intuitive understanding of the dual nature of man, as a spiritual being trapped in a flesh-and-blood vehicle on a physical level with animal-like qualities. The lower expression of our human existence often conflict in the penetrating awareness of the psyche within the Scorpio view, against the elevated heights of our origin as children of God. A typical Scorpio response when confronted is to lash out with the deadly accuracy of thought, word, or action, and no sign can better deliver a more vicious battle than Scorpio.

Scorpios are noted for their intense sexual drive, which they seem able to turn on and off at will. Scorpio rules the physical expression of reproduction, and Scorpios possess an unspoken, magnetic appeal that draws members of the opposite sex to complete this need. They are very physically intensive, and are noted for their penetrating, piercing eyes and their ability to "stare down" someone is not ignored. They are capable of generating astounding levels of energy as part of their Plutonian influence, and can be expected to regenerate themselves faster than others.

The Scorpio understandings of things hidden in both human nature and the world they live in, make them excellent workers in fields of the unexplored or occult. Detective or criminal justice, physics, archaeology, espionage, psychiatry or healing are Scorpio occupations. They have an uncanny psychic manner, in part as a watery, emotional sign, and often do not reveal what they think or know. They are very secretive in their ways, not wishing for others to know their plans, sometimes to the point of paranoia. This desire for privacy, whether for good or bad intention, carries the potential for controlling people in relationships, making Scorpios the most difficult people to truly understand, except on their own terms.

Libra the Scales - The Balance of Relationships

(Just a note:  not ALL the classic social role models ("archetypes") will fit the sign's characteristics, but these are good examples of people who outwardly express the qualities of the sign.)

 Libra (September 23 - October 22)

"I Am Who I Complement"

Libras bring a careful blending of intellect, beauty and harmony to our world. They are generally blessed with the social skills to find the balance in their lives that other signs learn less easily. Libras strive for equality in their endeavors, believing that cooperation is a mutually rewarding enterprise. They are not aggressive initiators of activities, relying often on others to start the process, but they will establish themselves as mediators and envoys if it will bring cohesion and unity.

Libras are particularly sensitive to the nature of relationships, and they will immerse their own assertiveness in order to calm an unpleasant scene. Marriage and partnerships are very significant factors in a Libra's life, and counseling, psychology, social and political offices often draw Libras. The political arena sometimes overwhelms the Libra need for harmony and good intention. Presidents Carter and Eisenhower suffered for their Libra indecision-making, especially during foreign and international crises.

Libra has the emphasis of Venus as a ruling planet, and Libra's have a natural flair and appreciation for the fields of art, music and decorating. They make excellent crafters of jewelry and costume design, and also architecture, as they strive to find the most pleasing visual and physical effects of comfort. Libras also find themselves as successful ambassadors to countries or as diplomatic representatives. They can show interest in the field of law as a means of exploring the balance between human and social interaction on a small-to-large scale.

Libras are easily and often wrongly considered indecisive in their relationships because of the need to find inner harmony and balance. A Libra will carefully examine options for the fairness of all. They can also set aside their own need for expressing anger to keep a truce, but when a Libra cannot hold back any longer, they follow through with an emotional outburst that can startle loved ones and even themselves. They have the ability to recall personal injustices done against them from years back, and under what circumstances they occurred.

Yet, these verbal time-delays bring out a greater need for peace within, and the Libra will easily reach out a gesture of restoration for a friendship or agreement to bring balance back to their lives.

Virgo the Maiden - Dedicated Analysis to Work for Society

(Just a note:  not ALL the classic social role models ("archetypes") will fit the sign's characteristics--but these are good examples of people who outwardly express the qualities of the sign.)

Virgo (August 23 - September 23)
"I Am What I Organize and Serve"

For a Virgo, the endeavors of work and service are the cornerstone of life. Their dedication to efficiency for a task assigned to them becomes an expression of a fulfillment of purpose. Virgos have the capability to direct their attention to detail to hair-splitting measures that often drive others to distraction.

A Virgo will create order out of chaos, clean and organize if necessary, evaluate and coordinate, and restructure an existing situation to fit their ideals of perfection. Their fussiness in personal and professional matters makes them suited for intricate, precise work requiring accuracy and dedication. Virgos are often found in the workplace as accountants, scientists, critics or administrators. They have the capacity to sacrifice themselves into their work, believing that service to humanity is the highest gesture they can offer.

Virgos also have a sensitive nature to foods or medicines. The sign Virgo represents the pure nature of the virgin, or an idea or principle remaining innocent in nature. Virgo rules the intestines, and Virgos often find themselves becoming vegetarians or health food conscious as a means of living. When a Virgo is upset or they are physically impaired by food that does not readily digest, they suffer digestive ailments, like gastritis or abdominal blockage. Their awareness of diet and alternative lifestyles for better living gives them insight into the food service and nutrition occupations.

Virgos also have the steady application of an earth sign, so they have the endurance to keep fixed to an objective at work, long after others would have assumed the job completed. They tend to strive so hard for perfection that they often spend time worrying about particulars that have no bearing on the issue. This tendency to fret over trivial details also fuels the Virgo nervous system into panic and anxiety over the slightest overlooked matter. They will research projects thoroughly to avoid possible error, and their ability to communicate this process can be both amusing and eloquent.

A Virgo will respond with pleasure to words both carefully placed, to bring about an elaborate, methodical acknowledgment. The fussy, "neat and clean" Virgo was nicely portrayed by Tony Randall as "The Odd Couple" cast member role of Felix Unger, and a higher, evolved image was captured by Leonard Nimoy and Brent Spiner's respective Star Trek roles of Mr. Spock and Commander Data.**(http://psyast.blogspot.com/search/label/Virgo%20%3D%20Vulcan)

Leo the Lion - Benevolence of Identity

(Just a note:  not ALL the classic social role models ("archetypes") will fit the sign's characteristics--but these are good examples of people who outwardly express the qualities of the sign.)

Leo (July 23 - August 22)
"I Am Why I Want it
My Way"

People born under the sign of Leo seem to virtually radiate with authority, vitality, and power. Their sign, the lion, certainly represents the strength and magnitude that Leo people project to those who know them. Their ruling planet, the Sun, represents the inner warmth and energy of fire that makes for the passionate dramatics and theatrics of Leo's activity. Leo also rules the heart in our body, and all born under this sign respond in turn to affection and love with a deep, robust enthusiasm that can be hard to withstand. They also rarely show how sensitive they are to personal slights, their pride being such that they would rather not show anything but dignity.

A Leo has a distinct love of attention and the spotlight draws them naturally. They have a generous, noble attitude that encourages their desire to please others, and gain for themselves the recognition they need. A Leo must be noticed for what they do and who they are, in order to remain content!

They are very appearance-minded, and their taste for clothes and grooming is noted. Both Leo men and women are able to command an audience by their ability to dress sharply and wear their hair (in effect, the lion's mane), to emphasize their looks for attention.

They are also natural actors and actresses and will take command of a project or role with great zest. The world of the stage, movies, and public display all lends avenues for a Leo to find their need to entertain. They love gatherings of people, parties, and social affairs, where they mingle freely and soak up the warmth of association with others. The kingly Leo manner has a way of dominating relationships, and their confidence is legendary. As long as a Leo believes in what they are doing is right, their integrity and capabilities are virtuous. However, when asked to compromise their ideals, they can turn lazy and despise their work.

Leo's love of attention also shows in their pride and desire for romance and love. Leos are ardent romantics, bringing their inner royal bearing upon those whom they feel worthy of receiving affection. Leo mothers are known for their ability to dominate a child or husband, with their projection of strength and presence. Leo's love nature is strong and vital, and affairs and attraction to the opposite sex come easily.  The people of France are a Leo-ruled nation, and offer a good idea!

Leos basically are kind people, love to please others, and will try enduring measures to live up to their goals. They must remember that power and authority must not be abused by willful desire, or the publicity they crave will turn on them, in a fall from their prideful ways.

Cancer The Crab (Moonchild) - Emotional Sensitivity

(Just a note:  not ALL the classic social role models ("archetypes") will fit the sign's characteristics--but these are good examples of people who outwardly express the qualities of the sign.)

Cancer (June 21 - July 22)
"I Am What I Feel"

It might be said of Cancerians (or "Moonchildren" or Crabs) that "home is where the heart is," for these natives are always aware of the need for the protection and comfort of shelter. This sensitivity for a safe haven extends to both a place to where they are living, as well as their emotions. Ask a Cancer to stay--and find out that they have taken over in subtle ways!

Because this sign is so strongly aware of the close ties of family, they are more open in their expression of feelings for loved ones. The Cancer native plays the role of parent, especially a mother figure, to friends as well as relatives. They must learn not to smother the object of their affections, but to nurture. If they are rejected in their efforts, they are prone to imaginary and real illness, often brought on by worry and emotional upheaval. Cancerians are known for their clinging to relationships, long after they have been cast aside.

Crabs are also emotional to deep extremes, with direct influence of the cycles of the moon, their ruling planet. Their psychic and intuitive links to others make them both pillars of strength and vulnerable targets. The Crab personality is not likely to forget harms done to them, and they can suffer the aches of stomach upsets and ulcers. The crab is known for the hard shell that protects, and Cancerians are tough on the outside and soft-hearted inside. A basic crusty personality can mask the sensitive, shy individual who is unwilling to reveal the moodiness behind the exterior. They are masters of passive resistance, able to act indifferent and unaffected by a lack of harmony with others. They are subtle at reverse psychology, nagging and pleading, and finding out what pleases someone in order to make them change their attitude to suit the Crab. The other party involved often bends their own rules to appease the willing martyr role of the Cancer.

Cancers are also known for their devotion to historical and patriotic ties. They are often the keepers of heirlooms, family records and legacies, antiques and other reminders of the line of heritage. They have a capacity to save for the future, keeping in mind that security also means financial prudence. They can become fussy to a fault with their monies, unwilling to spend even when necessary, holding onto their resources with a greedy insistence. On the other hand, some Crab types, especially mothers with rebellious children, have been known to allow their savings to be spent in hopeful efforts to save their children from troubles.

Gemini - The Twins (Curiosity and Communication)

(Just a note:  not ALL the classic social role models ("archetypes") will fit the sign's characteristics, but these are good examples of people who outwardly express the qualities of the sign.)

Gemini
(May 21-June 21):
"I Am What I Think About"

The first thing that comes to mind about Gemini is...the mind! These natives are the intellectuals of the zodiac, the curious, inquisitive seekers of knowledge on all levels. And they are not satisfied to learn about it mentally, they must express what they have learned, verbally to others and often at a never-ending pace. A Gemini can be the one who talks your ear off about anything and everything, and makes them seem charming and witty as they do it! Their best skill is to move through ideas and concepts, quickly learning the facts, cataloguing them and hurrying on to find the next bit of mental attraction.

Thus, Gemini activities revolve around the absorption and dispersal of information, and the various facilities that allow human communications. Creative writing and public speaking are natural expressions of the vast pool of ideas that are ready to jump out of a Gemini.

Gemini is the sign of the twins, and the dualistic nature is very important. Gemini's are sometimes called the two-sided personalities of the signs: you almost never know which part of the whole person with whom you are dealing. Because they are so adaptable to see concepts in terms of two sides, they can readily find attraction in more than one relationship or professional activity at a time. This also brings a rebellious nature, almost as if one side of their multi-faceted personality wants to let the other side exercise its right for self-expression.

The Gemini native often speaks or acts against the status quo, indulging in humorous play-acting to give the impression that they are cooperating with authority figures. Gemini makes for a comedian or "love child" approach to serious matters. These people feel they can charm their way with their agile mind and quick words and make themselves appear so innocent, that they would not be considered guilty of any wrong-doings.

Gemini energies are directed through the arms and shoulders, hands, lungs and nervous system. They have the dexterity to use their fingers in nimble and agile ways, and they can be more than willing to take for themselves anything that catches their interest. They can also be found in areas requiring skill and flair with their hands, such as music, where they can play several instruments, or writing, where they allow their thoughts to come into existence as they work on several tasks at once.
